A night of great Minnesota R&B! ZULUZULUU’s exploratory modern sound fuses electronic excursions, hard grooves, Afro-futurism and soulful melodies. Nooky Jones has wowed crowds with what the Star Tribune calls “Minnesota’s freshest baby making music.” Special guest Lady Midnight is a multidisciplinary artist whose music speaks to contemporary issues to provide a space for reflection and healing.

ZULUZULUU is made up of six musicians/producers: MMYYKK, Proper-T, Greg Grease, DJ Just Nine, ∆RT P∆RTÉ & Trelly Mo; armed with various synths, drum machines, and instruments set out to bring a new, exploratory modern sound influenced by the greats of funk, soul, and jazz with electronic excursions, hard grooves, Afro-futurism and soulful melodies. ZULUZULUU explores the psyche and searching for Black Excellence: “ZULUZULUU is church, it's therapy, it's family. It's a space where we can express ourselves freely as black men with no limitations,” states multi-instrumentalist/vocalist MMYYKK. The band works in communal fashion and continually seeks a greater truth. The band sees the group’s mission as part of a bigger movement. “We see ZULUZULUU as a vessel, a spiritual, sonic culmination of our experiences and influences from our ancestors.”

Nooky Jones’ soulful sound has been described by the Star Tribune as “Minnesota’s freshest baby making music.” The band has made a name for themselves wowing crowds in local rooms like First Avenue and The Fitzgerald, but has also taken their hard-hitting show to audiences throughout the region. With their debut album on the horizon (due out in July) and plans in place for more extensive touring, 2017 is set to be the band’s breakout year.

Lady Midnight is a multidisciplinary vocalist, songwriter, artist, educator, and descendant of Afro and Indigenous healers, musicians, and activists against violence. Her works speak to contemporary issues and analysis the collective and individual trauma to provide a space for reflection and healing.
