With the recent release of their debut album, Holidae — Ashley Gold and Garrett Neal, joined by Ryan Mach — stopped by The Current to perform live in-studio and to chat with host Andrea Swensson of The Local Show.

Holidae have come a long way since first forming during a spontaneous and improvised performance at bar close in Uptown Minneapolis. They won 2016's Are You Local? contest and spent the summer on major block party bills, where won over new fans with their impressive live show.

It's not just the fog and lights. Solid songwriting, the addition of Mach providing live percussion and and Gold's commanding presence on stage make Holidae a must-see live act. Plus the band has adopted unique performance makeup and attire, inspired by Adam Harvey's "Stealth Wear" that disrupts biometric scanners. But when you have an on-stage getup, sometimes that inspires hecklers.

"When people want to call out and say things to us, derogatory, about the music or about my appearance, about being a woman, whatever – I always, always know that my microphone is louder than them," said Gold.

"Being on stage, it holds a lot of power. What you say, how you act, what you do, it means a lot for the people in the audience and it means a lot for us. This is an intimate thing we get to share and experience. We try to keep the good vibes and positive energy to be able to give to those in the audience."
